Lake Chala is a volcanic crater lake on the Tanzania-Kenya border, approximately 55km east of Moshi — one of Tanzania's most visually extraordinary natural features. The lake sits inside a 70-metre caldera, fed entirely by underground springs from Kilimanjaro's water table, with water so vividly coloured it looks like a photograph has been filtered.
The Serac Adventure Lake Chala day trip includes a guided crater descent to the lake shore, kayaking on the crystal-clear surface (you can see clearly to 5 metres depth), the famous border rock where you can stand in two countries simultaneously, optional swimming, and crater rim hiking with panoramic Kilimanjaro views.
