Travel insurance is mandatory for all Kilimanjaro climbs with Serac Adventure, and strongly recommended for all safari and day trip bookings. Please ensure your policy covers the following:
Essential cover for Kilimanjaro climbers
- High-altitude trekking above 5,000m — standard travel insurance often excludes this; check explicitly
- Emergency medical evacuation — helicopter evacuation from Kilimanjaro costs $20,000–$80,000 without insurance
- Trip cancellation and curtailment
- Medical expenses including hospitalisation in Tanzania

World Nomads, True Traveller, and Battleface all offer policies that specifically cover high-altitude trekking and Tanzania safari activities. Always read the small print and confirm altitude coverage before purchasing.
What to carry
Bring a printed and digital copy of your insurance certificate, your insurer's emergency contact number, and your policy number. Share these with your Serac Adventure guide before starting your climb.
